Cochrane Minor Hockey Association - Initiation Program

CMHA offers an Initiation Program for 4, 5 and 6 year olds that runs on Saturday and Sunday mornings.   Initiation is a House League program which means there is no travel and is focused on fun, fair and safe experiences that reinforce basic hockey skills.  Cochrane hosts an Initiation tournament towards the end of each season and relays on assistance from a volunteer committee.  Individual teams may also travel to other tournaments and is coordinated in discussion with the Coach and parents.  For more information about the Initiation Program please contact Shawn Polley at Shawn.Polley@gov.ab.ca

The CMHA Initiation Program is an introductory hockey program for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. With a focus on a fun, fair and safe hockey experience, the program is based on building core hockey skills through practice and game situations.

The 2010-2011 season brings many positive changes to the Initiation Program as our community continues to benefit with our partnership with the Spray Lakes Sawmill Family Sports Centre.

1. Fair teams based on our skills assessment program that occurs prior to the season start that blends team to maximize on player development.
2. Better start times - a big improvement on the 6:30 am ice times of the past and a unique benefit to Cochrane compared to other associations.
3. More ice = lots of skating = optimal development. The basic CMHA Initiation season program is 40 hours practice/games (20 weeks X twice each weekend) + 5 hours of exhibition game ice + 6 hours of technical development ice per season.
4
, CMHA also supports the annual Initiation Invitational tournament - an excellent event run by the dedicated tournament committee - a fun weekend of games against other invited Associations and increases our opportunity to gain invitations to other tournaments.
5. Competitive cost - we have balanced the ice usage and team size to offer the Initiation Program at $500.00 for the 2010-2011 hockey season.

We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding season where your child can learn, grow and develop their skills, sportsmanship and community values - see you at the Rink!
