“ “The CMHA House League Program is designed to provide a fun, fair and competitive hockey experience for those who do not wish to travel away from home! In House League, players are evaluated to balance the skills on each team in order to provide a competitive hockey environment within the community”. The Initiation program is based completely on skill development. Players are encouraged to rotate through all positions including goal. No single player shall be designated as goaltender on any team.
The Novice level encourages players to rotate through all positions including goal while they continue to develop their skills. No single player will play goal more than 50% of all games played.
The Atom level still allows for players to experiment in various positions while they develop their knowledge of the game and continue to improve their skills. It is recognized that some players may have already made a conscious decision to play a position of choice and every effort will be made to maximize playing time in that position. It is also recognized that at this level it might not be in the player’s best interest to play their position of choice on a full time basis. Consideration will be provided for others that wish to play any position on a part time basis. Any player wishing to play goal shall be given the opportunity at least once during the season.
In the Peewee and Bantam level, it is understood that players have made a conscious decision to play a position of choice. Goalies will be evaluated and players will participate in a body checking clinic. Body contact is introduced early in the season at the Peewee level. Goalies that desire to play as a skater when designated as the backup must also participate in the body checking clinic.
